Get to know me
Hi! I’m Julia. At school, my students call me “Ms. Ludo.” Outside of school, I’m okay with “Julia,” “Ms. Julia,” or “Ms. Ludo.”
I double majored in writing and rhetoric and political science during undergrad in my home state of Rhode Island. My love of writing led me to earn a Masters of Arts in Critical Studies in Literacy and Pedagogy from Michigan State University. During this time, I worked as a writing consultant at the MSU Writing Center and taught two sections of first-year writing.
After graduation, I moved to Minneapolis and decided to try my hand in the nonprofit sector. I spent nearly three years specializing in digital communications for a disability services organization in the Twin Cities metro area. In 2024, I experienced a spine injury that left me unable to sit at the computer for the long stretches demanded by my communications job.
Recovering from my injury led me to reflect on just how much I missed being in the classroom. When I was cleared to work again, I decided to give teaching another go in the K-12 setting. Substitute teaching is the best job I’ve ever had, and an excellent fit for me as I continue to focus on recovery while beginning to pursue my M.Ed and Minnesota teaching license in English Language Arts for Grades 5-12.
I feel I have a specialized set of skills that parents can lean on to help supplement or fill gaps in their child’s education. Maybe your child’s teacher can’t give them the individualized attention they need. Maybe you don’t have the the time or bandwidth to wear yet another hat after school or during breaks. Maybe your kid is reading grade levels ahead and needs someone to nurture their skills so they don’t get bored. That’s where I can help. I pride myself on my creative approach to curriculum design and lesson delivery that focuses first and foremost on capturing students’ interest and cultivating growth. I emphasize whenever possible the importance of showing up for the process, rather than the quality of the end product.
Simply put, helping kids learn to love reading and writing is my life’s passion. I hope to have the honor of fostering a lifelong appreciation of these essential skills for the students in your family!
